Short bio of Jason Alavi Jason David Alavi was born on December 4th, 1969, in Cleveland, Ohio, USA.His father, Ali Reza Alavi, is a retired Professor of Political Science and his mother, Karima Diane Marie Alavi, is currently finishing her MFA in Creative Writing, is a consultant and educator on Islamic and educational matters and is a teacher at The New Mexico School for The Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Jason first came to Thailand in July, 1986, as a Rotary Club Youth Exchange Scholar. He lived for 14 months in MaeHongSon township, in MaeHongSon Province, in Northern Thailand. It was then that he fell in love with Thailand and was named “1986-1987 Rotary Club Youth Exchange Scholar of the Year”. He also got his first taste of teaching there, teaching Conversational English to Burmese hill-tribe refugees on the weekend, in the jungle. After finishing High School back in Ohio, Jason did his Bachelors in World History/Geography at George Mason University, in Fairfax, Virginia, USA. After a few years spent in stable but boring, unfulfilling jobs, he decided to move back to Thailand in 1996. He, like most foreigners who want to stay in Thailand, started teaching English. Since then, he has taught every subject except Math, which he is terrible at! J In 2002, he married his long-time friend, Jintana, and they now have a 6 year old son (Sebastian) and a 13 year old adopted daughter (Looknahm). In early 2002, he became the Head of Personnel for The Vanessa Schools Group, a group of three private schools in the Rangsit area. In late 2002, he resigned and he and Jintana opened up AE and Jason started teaching Conversational English at SKR. Shortly thereafter, AE was asked to become the sole provider of foreign teaching staff at SKR and the rest, as they say (tongue-in-cheek) is history! He is currently The Managing Director of A.E. He is also a member of The Rotary Club of Rangsit. In addition to this, he is also an occasional Special Consultant on Educational Matters to Pathumthani Province office of Ministry of Education E.S.A. 1 and The English Language Institute of The Royal Thai Ministry of Education, Bangkok. He frequently volunteers to help local financially poor schools to put on English Camps. He is currently studying towards a Masters in Educational Administration from Leicester University, in England, through their Distance Learning Program.
